My name is Francesca Riva and I come from Milan, Italy. I did my bachelor and MSc in Veterinary Biotechnology at the University of Milan (2012-2017) and I developed my final dissertation project on chicken’s microbiota at the
Autonomous University of Barcelona, under the Erasmus+ programme. Then, I attended a master in clinical research at the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research and In 2018, I was selected for the European Join Doctorate in molecular animal nutrition, MANNA, under the supervision of the University of Glasgow, Zagreb and Nutrition Science, Belgium.
The aim of my Phd is to study the immunomodulatory effect of two novel plant extracts (citrus and cucumber) in broiler chicken diets. The main objective is to compare the growth performance (zootechnical data), gut microbiota (16SrRNA gene Sequencing), gut morphology (histology), acute-phase response and metabolome (OMICs technologies) of healthy and challenged chickens pre and post E.coli LPS challenge. Novel plant extracts offer alternatives to the use of antibiotics in broiler diets.
